Frisky Frog Montessori

The Montessori Toddler Co-op at Frisky Frog Forest & Farmstead in Olympia, WA is…

We are a Montessori community that honors children by creating a loving environment that is prepared for their success and development. We acknowledge that …

“The child has a different relation to his environment from ours… the child absorbs it.  The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul.  He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.” – Maria Montessori in The Absorbent Mind

… And thus, it is our duty to provide the best school and family community by continually learning, growing, improving, and supporting each other to provide a caring environment rich in experiences for our toddlers.

Is your child currently of age to attend our program (~12-36 months)?

Montessori education for toddlers nurtures the whole child by fostering independence, curiosity, and a love for learning during a critical period of development. Rooted in hands-on, child-centered activities, it encourages children to explore and learn at their own pace, building confidence and problem-solving skills. The Montessori approach emphasizes respect for the child’s individuality, helping them develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills through purposeful activities and collaboration. For toddlers, this foundation supports their natural drive to master everyday tasks, fostering a sense of achievement and preparing them for lifelong learning.

“There is in the child a special kind of sensitivity which leads him to absorb everything about him, and it is this work of observing and absorbing that alone enables him to adapt himself to life.  He does it in virtue of an unconscious power that exists in childhood….The first period of the child’s life is one of adaptation.  It is the child’s special adaptability that makes the land into which he is born the only one in which he will ever want to live.” – Maria Montessori in The Absorbent Mind

As a co-operatively supported program, we rely on consistent and enthusiastic engagement from our families to keep our toddler community running strong and costs to join our care low. We understand that there is a range of family abilities to be active in the classroom and that some children need full time care. Tuition ranges from as low as $40 per month for a child attending with their designated family member as a volunteer teacher aide 1 or 2 half-days each week to the maximum of $1,350 per month to attend full-time without classroom volunteer hours. There are many roles that are needed and can be used to fulfill your required co-op hours such as:

  • Classroom teacher aides with weekly or bi-weekly schedules with their child
  • Substitute teaching hours
  • Sharing music, art, language, or other specialty lessons
  • Providing and/or preparing snacks
  • Regularly switching out library books
  • Helping with classroom daily or weekly maintenance such dishes, laundry, and recycling
  • Monthly deep cleaning committees
  • Design or guide professional development such as family reading clubs or outings
  • Something you’re passionate about! We’d love to hear about your skills and interests!
